JCM 800 sound clips

Anyone got any? I want a sound clip of an unmodified JCM 800 (if possible) with maybe a booster pedal? Just post what you got, I'm thinking about buying one!

If you're looking for a booster pedal, I know the Boss OD-10 (the twin pedal distortion thingy) has a "boost" setting that gives you a pure volume boost, as well as models of the Ibanez Tube Screamer, among other pedals, and Boss pedals including the DS-1, etc. It sounds great too.

Yeah, I'd really be interested in that one too. I'm using it currently as the main amp in my pod (don't ask me why *lol*)... I always wondered what they sound like for real. I was thinking of maybe buying one in the future, as they seem to go more or less cheap on bay

All I have is a quick DI clip of my JCM 900 SL-X w/ EL-34's. Let me know if you want to hear it.

JEMavenger, here's the SL-X clip. I wish I had more of the Marshall recorded but I was just fooling around with the 'recording compensated output' to hear how it would sound straight into my soundcard. It's just one lick.

It usually takes a couple of tries to hear the whole thing.....my player chops the end off on the first pass every time.

I've got an '82 JCM 800 4010 (1x12 50watt). It's identical in every way to a 2204 50 watt head. When I get home from work, I'll record a quick couple of clips for you and upload 'em ASAP (hope Macintosh format is okay).

The "booster" pedal I use is a late-model Taiwanese BOSS OD-1 Super Overdrive, nothin' fancy.

JEMavenger: Do you want to hear it through a Marshall 4x12 Vintage-30 cab, or the original Celestion 65 that's in the 1x12 combo?

I'd rather hear it through the cab, because that's what I am planning on purchasing. And what do you mean 'macintosh format'? Could you please record it in mp3, or maybe even a small wav, or tell me of a player where I can play the clip? Thanks for everything dude.

I could record a clip of my TSL's crunch channel through a mesa recto 2x12, which is supposed to be fairly jcm800 in persuasion... never played the real thing, though, so i couldn't tell you.

Okay, here we go.

Here are four quick MP3s of my '88 777DY running into a BOSS Super Overdrive SD-1 (Sorry ... I accidentally wrote "OD-1" the first time). These were recorded with a super-cheap Radio Shack mic from '89 straight into my Korg D-16, no effects, no EQ.

Amp settings:

Preamp dimed. Master on 2. Treble at 9. Middle at 5. Bass at 10. Presence at 8.

BOSS settings:

Level at 2:00. Drive at 10:00. Tone at high noon.

777DY settings:

Both volume and tone dimed.

Sustaining Chords

Some sustaining 6-string chords. Trying to show the clarity of all six strings and demonstrate compression/sustain characteristics of the JCM 800. Bridge 'bucker.

Bends and legato

Cheesy little blues pentatonic run. Lotsa bends and harmonics. Bridge 'bucker.

Neck 'bucker run

Quickie little run with the neck position. Attempting to demonstrate articulation and attack.

Bridge 'bucker run

Ditto, only with the bridge 'bucker.

Hope these help you out. Personally, I love the 800s ... that 2203 reissue with the built-in effects loop is darn temptin'!

You can check out pretty much anything done by Zakk Wylde. That is all he uses plus EMG pups.

Not to turn this into a "ghostbuilder" thread, but I've heard tell that Zakk's amps are actually M&Gs inside of Marshall housings. Take that for what it's worth.
