keeley ds1 verus analogman ds1

has anyone else compared these two pedals?.......i personally like the analogman version better .comparing the two at the same settings the analog version feels warmer creamier....yet single notes have more sting...........

the keeley version is alot louder....hard to tell this unless you run it threw your clean channel...but im using it for a lead boost

Re: keeley ds1 verus analogman ds1

After reading the Analogman website, it seems to me that he REALLY, REALLY knows his stuff, and he makes references to "other popular pedal modders" (which I assume to be Mr. Keeley) as not really doing the "right" changes to make the guitar really shine, just basic stuff that incorrectly addresses issues within the pedal.

The only reason why the keeley DS-1 is louder is because of the LED in place of one of the silicon diodes. (the DS-1 ultra mod has two Led's).

After doing doing a bunch of DS-1 mods for people I can safely say that Keeley's DS-1 is far from being perfect and that there's still a lot of room to play with to improve the pedal.

yeah i'd agree . I bought a keeley modded ds-1 from buddroyce and i really enjoy how smooth it is and what i can do with it but the pedal has a lot of potiental left . But what any pedal there is always room to improve to personal tastes and such. I made a distortion/overdriver pedal and ended up not using the same distortion diodes and got a much more mellow smooth Muff style distortion instead of the pedal sounding somthing more like an sd-1 .

well i have since started using the keeley lol..... its fatter sounding.....and the low end seems a little tighter.....if you dig joes tone... use a basic tube crunch add the ds1 and dont be shy with the ds1's tone control.......

Re: keeley ds1 verus analogman ds1

I agree with buddroyce here, but he is being kind IMO with his appraisal of the keeley DS-1, I didnt like that pedal at all.
playing chords it would be too low, muddy and generally horribly bassy, wherever the tone control was and if you were playing lead it was too shrill.

the op-amp I could 'hear' working, the way it was desperately trying to break up like a tube and failing..
in all its an overpriced overrated one trick pony...
ive not used an AM DS-1 but I do hear that they are a lot better.

this may not be a popular opinion but the Keeley modded DS-1 costs about £110 which should buy you a tone monster, but it does'nt.
