Post Looking for some advise on new gear

Pew, haven't posted here in a looooong time. I need some suggestions on some gear. I have a Fender Deville amp (original not the reissue) and a very old Boss ME-6 multi-effect board plus a Boss DS-1, a Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi w. Tone Wicker, a DigiTech XP-100 Whammy-Wah, a Original Cry Baby Wah-Wah and finally an Electronic PolyTune 2 Tuner. The Boss ME-6 is about 20 years old now and I want to get rid of it. So my question is should replace it with another multi-effect board like a Line6 Pod HD500X or go for a separate pedals. I really only need a chorus pedal, a delay pedal (maybe two) and flanger and or phaser. So what to do....

Re: Looking for some advise on new gear

I guess it depends how much money you want to spend and how picky you are going to be with the individual pedals. Some pedals, Boss, Ibanez, etc.. can be had cheap. But once you step up and go Wampler, JHS, and above - things start to get pricey.

I'd say if the multi unit works for you go that route. Things have advanced quite a bit in that arena the past 20 years.

Re: Looking for some advise on new gear

welcome back.
I'm not sure how much quality you are looking for in a delay, modulation, and so on..
I'm currently using zoom CDR pedal for those and quiet happy with it. Of course I'm only using one delay at one preset, nothing more.
It cost below hundred dollar for sure.

Re: Looking for some advise on new gear

I don't mind having to spend some money on getting some decent pedals. Right now my main issue is that the Boss ME-6 is old and noisy. Hence, the reason for replacing it but my problem is that I play stuff ranging from thrash to jazz/blues and everything in between. The Boss DS-1 on its own with my amp doesn't cut it for metal and thrash. Currently I use the DS-1 as a boost for the distortion in the ME-6. Getting rid of the ME-6 would be losing that ability. Should I get another distortion pedal then or a boost pedal? I would rather prefer going the separate pedal way, seeing Steve Vai's, Guthrie Govan's and etc. pedal boards now a days they seem to go for simplicity...

Re: Looking for some advise on new gear

I see your point, so your main distortion sound coming from ME-6.
I'm not really good at multi fx or pedal or have any knowledge on what is good for today.

but some of my friends swear by blackstar pedal as their main pre amp.

Re: Looking for some advise on new gear

I've been using a Zoom G3x pedal in the loop of my amp for delays and chorus and a few other goodies and it sounds great! It's also super easy to program and a great deal at about $199 new. Check out the reviews - it is a great little unit that might be just what you're looking for. I liked it so much I bought a G5 and I'm loving that too =)

Re: Looking for some advise on new gear

I used to be all about multieffects pedals but have since gone to a pedalboard. It's easier to tweak your sound via individual stompboxes I think.
If I were to pick must haves on my board it would be a DS-1, an AF2 flanger, a Neo Clone chorus, and a DD3 delay. I'm a bit of an odd egg though as I use a Marshall Valvestate and prefer it. So take that for what it's worth.

Re: Looking for some advise on new gear

Well I have decided to with separate stomp boxes and not a multieffect pedalboard. Here's what I have chosen to add to my current rig which will consist of a

Boss DS-1
Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi w. Tone Wicker
DigiTech XP-100 Whammy-Wah
Original Cry Baby Wah-Wah
Electronic PolyTune 2 Tuner

I will then add these pedals

MXR M 234 Analog Chorus
MXR Phase 90
Boss DD-7
Suhr Koko Reloaded
Boss BF-3

Comments?

Re: Looking for some advise on new gear

IMO the Big Muff Pi is redundant with the DS-1 in the chain. I'd replace that with the MXR chorus. Chorus to me is a must have. I put a tiny bit on with distortion for a bit of color and add more on a clean tone.
Also the DD7 works best if you're running two amps live, which I've never really done. If you're running dual amps at home or are a professional musician with space on stage for a second amp then its cool. I just like the DD3 better and think it's more practical. Just my opinion though...

Re: Looking for some advise on new gear

I've being building my pedalboard for a couple of months now, so far what i got is:

Morley Bad Horse Wah
Digitech Whammy 4
JHS Angry Charlie Overdrive
Tc Electronic Flashback Triple Delay

Not much but i've been having tons of fun in reaserching and building my pedalboard, next in line is a Keeley Compressor and a Strymon Blue Sky reverb, after that is another drive, im looking for a kind of Klon pedal so it'll probably be a Wampler Tumnus, im not completely sure about modulation yet but i'm keeping my eyes for an MXR script logo phase 45.

Re: Looking for some advise on new gear

Well I got the pedals I mentioned above and set everything up. Looking for some advice on in what order I should put the pedals. What I have set up now is

My guitar go into a

TC Electronic PolyTune 2 Tuner
Suhr Koko Reloaded
Original Cry Baby Wah-Wah
DigiTech XP-100 Whammy-Wah
Boss DS-1
Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi w. Tone Wicker
Boss DD-7
MXR M 234 Analog Chorus
MXR Phase 90
Boss BF-3

this then goes in to my Fender 4x10 Blues Deville amp. Is that order ok or would a different be better?

Re: Looking for some advise on new gear

Besides built in effects on some amps the Line 6 is next step up and very popular like MXR was at one time.

A small boutique company they own called Fractal Audio has the Axe FX that is about as good as it gets. One salesman told me that some of the great technology stuff from the Axe FX was later put into the much cheaper Line 6.

I was gonna suggest the MXR Analog Chorus, I have it and I love it. The DD7 will be great. I'd suggest the MXR Carbon Copy in addition if you want an analog and a digital delay and they are different. Phase 90 is cool, I replaced mine with a Phase 100 because it has more options, but the phase 90 was cool too, I wish I had kept it. I have the Boss BF-3, but I don't use flanger a lot, but it sounds great.
