Low wattage power amp to drive an external preamp

Hi guys,

Is there a good low wattage power amp to drive an external preamp (not a modelling amp, so no power amp modelling in there) ? For home usage while preserving tone and not getting overly loud!

From what I've seen most power amps are minimum 20/20 watts which is probably still to much to use at home!
Or maybe I'm missing some special one ?
Maybe a solid state power amp ? But even then the minimum is like 100w... I'm thinking Rocktron velocity 100.

Alternatively a low watt amp could work as long as it has an effects loop and is known for "digesting" pedals well ? Something like the Blackstar HT-5 ?

Re: Low wattage power amp to drive an external preamp

The best ones out there I've encountered are the Mesa 20/20 and the Marshall EL84 20/20. I own the Marshall and can honestly say everything I run through that sounds at least 50% better, and you can run it at bedroom volumes easily enough. Otherwise, I'd say get a good sounding power amp (any wattage) and use an attenuator such as a ROCKMAN Power Soak, Marshall Power Brake, THD Hot Plate, etc.

Cheers,

Race

Thanks for the heads up guys! I will try both the HT-5 and the poweramp options!
