mandolin help

I have been playing guitar for about 3 and a half years and I recently became interested in mandolins. Does anybody have a suggestion on what kind of Mandolin, style and brand, I should buy? Thanks.

Re: mandolin help

I'd go with Michael Kelly. If you're planning to shell out big bucks for one, I'd take a look at a Breedlove.

Get a banjo, then walk into a room full of girls and say, 'hey girls, wanna pluck my banjo strings?'

Re: mandolin help

What price range? The Mid-Missouri ones are well liked, because they're USA made and very simple; made to sound and play well. But they're ugly. For more, Collings, Breedlove, etc. all have adherents.

As far as cheaper imports, it seems the MKs are as good as any, but I'd get one from a store so you can play a few & pick the best one. These pacific rim models are really sketchy at QA.
