Marshall 1936 2x12 problem

Ok, so i recently scored a used 1936 cab for $300 Canadian. I get my bugera 6260 head delivered(btw, its going back, i dont like it), plug it in, match the impedance. Plug the cable into the 8 ohm mono jack on the cab. Play, put my ear to the speakers(dont worry, it was low volume) and sound is only coming through the left side. If i plug the cable into the 16 ohm right jack, it comes through the right speaker only. So right now, the cab only works as a stereo cab, but i want to be able to use it as a mono cab, woth both speakers going at the same time. Any thoughts on this, and how to fix it?

Re: Marshall 1936 2x12 problem

so it has two 16 ohm speakers? I don't know why mono mode doesn't work as expected, it could be that someone rewired it? When you use 8ohm jack do you have something plugged in the other jack (you shouldn't)?
If you don't need stereo mode, just unsolder both jacks and wire speakers in parallel (black with black, red with red or whatever the color is) to one of the jacks and leave the other open. That will give you 8ohm total impedance. Otherwise, you can try to restore it to the original state. One of the jacks should be switching mode to make that happen.
Cheers

Re: Marshall 1936 2x12 problem

well it is supposed to be able to have a non switchable mono and stereo. if i have two speaker cables going to it, it runs at 16 ohms. And id like the flexibility of being able to go from mono to stereo. But if nothing works, i'll do what you said.

Re: Marshall 1936 2x12 problem

what I meant by "switchable" is jack construction for the 16ohm right jack. When you plug something in it cuts the other speaker out of the mix, so that you can use it with the other jack. When nothing is plugged in the right jack, it switches the right speaker in parallel with the left one. Check if the wiring is good.

Re: Marshall 1936 2x12 problem

i'll try to get pics. I should be able to run the cab in mono 8 ohms by plugging a cable into the left jack, which would activate both speakers. But it's not doing that.

I think this problem might have just been in my head. I turned the head up half way, put my leg in front of both speakers pone at a time, and could feel my leg hair moving for both
