Then you're going to either need a higher gain head or an overdrive...

As many options as possible? Try a TSL or a Mesa Road King, then- they have more knobs.

Ok, i'll stop joking around now... I guess it really depends on your needs... Are you looking to use it as-is or with an overdrive? Will you be playing primarily in your bedroom, or gigging? and how big are the places you will be gigging in? finally, what sort of a tone are you looking for?

They've got one up at a guitar store up the road for me, and they know i'm interested in their TSL (of course, i'm not, really, it's the highest priced tsl i've ever seen ANYWHERE but they don't need to know i have no intention of buying from them... ) so maybe i can try to plug into it next time i'm there "for comparison's sake" and give you my impressions...

I had a 50 watt JMP Mk.2, it was too limiting. It was one channel, not nearly enough distortion, and it did sound better when cranked but then you need a Power Brake or some attenuator. If I were to get a single channel Marshall is would be the JCM800 2203.

yeah well since my first post on this topic i have bought a Marshall JMP MK2 master mark lead series 100w head and its a killer, i love it.

I only use it for a power amp not for distortion as all my effects are pedal produced. Loud and big.

well the JMP i got is a 2203 model and is the exact same amp (not cosmetics) as the jcm 800 2203 - my mate has one.

Thanks for you feedback.
