Mesa Boogie Half Back/opinions?

I hear they are really heavy and well made. Any body played one? Whatcha think about it? I know Sikes used one in the 80s with WS. I like that 80s style hard rock/metal.

I use a Mesa express 5 50 head with a Marshall cab. Now, its pretty heavy, but something like the stilleto is REALLY heavy. But a stilleto or a rectifier would would super well for 80s rock and metal. I really love it though, and recommend Mesa to anyone.

Re: Mesa Boogie Half Back/opinions?

Yes, they are heavy, although any well made amp heads are going to have some heft to them. The cab is also hefty, though again, any well made cab is going to be heavy. I don't know that Mesas are any moreso than another maker at similar price/quality points.
Personally, I'd go with a 2x12 if you're taking it to gigs. Most places are too small to make it worth my while lugging a 4x12 when the 2x12 gets me just about all I ever need. A wall of speakers looks awesome in videos but my back appreciates the restraint. As for the style you mentioned, I'd look at a used Mesa DC series amp for that 80's Mesa on a budget. The Mark III/IV/V will get you there but cost more. And you can never go wrong with a recto.

Is this a half opene/half closed backed cab? I'm not familiar with it and certainly haven't played one, but Mesa makes pretty awesome stuff across the board - I play a Roadster head through a Recto cab and the thing sounds godly. And not just in the down-tuned heavy crunch way you'd expect.
