Mesa/Boogie Mark IV (lets talk, share clips, etc)

hi there

i'm very interested in this amp and want to get more info...
first of all i'm interested in price of this unit and TONE! i really want one 112 combo amp, very (!!!) versatile. here are my questions: can this amp give my petrucci, vai tones (P&W and Legacy)? what about rythm playing? how it works with 7 string? i also like lo-gain (semi-distorted) lead tones...

so lets simply talk about this amp and plz drop some clips of you playing this amp

Thanks alot

Petrucci easily, you could attempt Vai by dialing out all the mid crunch

Talking Re: Mesa/Boogie Mark IV (lets talk, share clips, etc)

I used to run a Mark IV head w/ a 32 band EQ and Alesis Quadraverb. Awesome tonal ability, but I found you are limited to one tone. There are 2 channels, but if you set up for a good crunch, the clean suffers and vice versa. Now, if you could have one for each tone.... I guess that's why the created the Triaxis

If you go to www.myspace.com/malicious

and listen to the song 'Through The Eyes Of A Traitor" you'll hear me with my 7 string and a Mesa Mark IV with only a slight delay for the solo. Nothing else.

I used a Mk IV combo for these clips... my guitar is panned to the right side. The solos I recorded were in the middle of "Left Behind" and at the end of "Let it Go".

I would say a definite no to true vai like tones, but petrucci yes. These are awesome amps with alot of tweak in them, but they are insanely powerful imo and tend to color your tone somewhat (in a good way)

Vai has gone on record as saying he prefers a more of a flat response. V'ing the mids will not get you that Vai tone, then.

Um, good question... I had 3 wah's around at the time I went into the studio, so it could have been a Crybaby 95Q, a Bad Horsie, or an Ibanez WD7.

Listening to the tracks, I'm 95% sure the clean wah on "Let it Go" is a Crybaby 95Q. Not as sure about the touch o' wah on "Left Behind".

he may have said that but his tone is anything but a flat response, there's a heavy scoop out of his upper mids

no, he doesn't scoop much at all, look at his amp settings.
