Mesa/Boogie Studio Preamp, good for Dream Theater stuff?

yeh, so any of you have expierence with this preamp?
I've heard lots of good things about it,
does it have a good distortion? or would I need to have lead boost with other pedals or something.

?

Why don't you just go play the amps and decide for yourself if you htink it's a DT sound?? Or just look at what Petrucci uses on their site. he uses just about every Mesa product so it's not like you can go wrong. He's mainly using Road King head's now (in studio), but he uses the Triaxis's live.

No, amp wise he only has three Road King heads in his touring rack. AFAIK he hasn't used a triaxis at all since FII.

That's funny I just saw him a month and a half ago and he used the triaxis.. Also keep in mind he uses different rigs with Liquid Tension then he does for Dream Theater. Plus you can't see the rack from the crowd.

"I'm also incredibly excited about the new rig that my good buddy Mark Snyder built for me. It's entirely over-the-top and simply beautiful. All Mesa Boogie of course. :-D Just as on the new album, I've opted for Road Kings over the C+'s, same goes for this live rig."

ok

So all he did was switch the 3 CII's for 3 RK's he still has 2 Tri Axis's going through 290's in his rack.

i thought John (or his techs) had the RKs dialed up awfully at the DT gig.... really thin and tinny (for his lead tone anyway)

JPM sound.... IIC+s are rare/in demand as anything, i imagine you couldnt go wrong with a MkIV or a triaxis really..... not the world's biggest mesa fan (probably down to only trying the rectifier series )
