Michael Kelly instruments

Has anybody heard anything about these? I'm more interested in buying one of the mandolins. I've been getting back into my secondary instruments (mandolin, banjo, fiddle) and I'm looking to get something a little better than the entry level fender I have now. The site looks very good and some of my friends have told me they make pretty good instruments but I was wondering if any of you guys have heard anything.

Re: Michael Kelly instruments

I have a cheap ($180) mandolin from MF. I think they're competitive for what they are. There are other pacific rim choices like Kentucky, but I'd bet the bigger differences are between individual instruments.

And I'd keep to the A shape at the lower prices. The scroll is expensive to make and takes money away from places it would be better spent - frets, fretboard, top, bridge, etc.

Re: Michael Kelly instruments

I don't know much about their mandolins but I have two of their les paul style guitars and I love them, they are built amazing for the price and everybody that has seen them has been very very impressed. I can only imagine the quality of the mandolins are great cuz I think that was one of the first things they started with.

Re: Michael Kelly instruments

Thanks for the info guys. I've been drooling over the legacy o mandolin. It's an f style mandolin with an oval soundhole instead of the traditional f-holes
