Midi interface

Hey, this might not be the right thread but its the closet to my question.

I have 80 dollars (I'm only 14,work next year ) and I want to get a midi interface for my line 6 flextone 2 to transfer tones from www.customtone.com. Just wondering if that would work for sure and also if i can reocrd with it, so i dont need a mic ( I only have a computer mic ). Will that give me much better quilitiy and sound?I would imagine but I need those questions answered first! Don't flame me for not knowing, dont know much about all the high tech stuff so far!

<< will that work or do i need one of those <<big boxes. ( I'm real dumb at this)

Thanks in advance, Austin.

Re: Midi interface

Either of those should work for transferring tones to/from your amp. However, no actual sounds travel over MIDI, just data, so you cannot use a MIDI interface for recording--you need a digital audio interface for that.

Are you capable of opening up the computer to install a card like the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 ( http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_u...2496-main.html )? For $100, it acts as both a MIDI interface and digital audio interface. I use a hot-rodded version of that (the M-Audio 1010LT) for both MIDI and digital audio and have had a really good experience with it.

If you can't open up the computer, then you probably need to stay with USB interfaces like the ones you have above. That Edirol MIIDI box you've got above sells for about $40. Edirol makes a similar USB digital audio interface (UA1X) for about $80, so you could get both for $120. For an extra $20, it may be worth it to avoid having to open up the computer.

Re: Midi interface

I have the m-audio midisport 2x2 pictured above and am happy with it. I just got it about a week or two ago. It even works with Linux (though it's slightly tricky, but I recorded the details of what I did to make it work here:
http://www.geocities.com/smcameron/midisport2x2.html
(geocities site, so don't burn all my bandwidth unless you're really interested in midisport 2x2 on linux.)

I have only tried sending MIDI data from the computer to my devices, not the other way, though I don't have any reason to think it wouldn't work. I have tried with Kurzweil, Yamaha, and BOSS drum machine, and all 3 worked ok.)
