Music Making Help!!!!

Hey guys, as of late, I've been able to track a lot of my guitar playing on Reaper. I'm still learning a lot about it, but I'd like to think I'm proficient with it. Here's some covers I've recorded with it: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/pages/Josh-Kruszyna/183164488397615?sk=app_178091127385

However, I want to move beyond simple covers, and I really wanna take music making more seriously. Now, I have a few questions regarding this:

-What do you guys recommend for VSTs for a program like Reaper or guitar rig? I would love to hear what you guys recommend for anything, whether it be reverb, distortion, anything. I just want something that is going to sound better than what I'm using right now (Freeamp, Dirthead, and a few other free ones are what I'm using at the moment). I'm happy with what I got, essentially, but I'd like to upgrade if at all possible.

-I'm definitely looking to get serious about music making. Thus, I'd love to get my hands on a program that can help me with that. Price isn't an issue, but I'd like to keep it under $500, if possible. I've heard a lot of good buzz about Fruity Loops, in that you can do a lot with it, and it's rather accessible for new users. Of course, I'd love to hear recommendations that you guys have. It'd also help if the program could mix competently as well. Just a really well-rounded program to complement my guitar recording is all I'm essentially looking for. I'd also appreciate it if I could be pointed in the right direction for a good place to get VSTs for this program as well.
That's it guys, I'd love to hear your input with this! I truly appreciate it!

Re: Music Making Help!!!!

If you're looking for a different DAW program that would allow you to master as well, I'd look at Presonus Studio One Pro. It comes with a bundle of plugins and will work with most vst's out there.

One thing you might want to keep in mind is that no DAW will enhance or make your actual recordings any better, as that will be a limitation on the hardware you're using to record music with.

I hope this helps.
