Re: My JSX review

Yeh I remember reading that you'd modded the Ultra channel. Funnily enough I like both channels, even though I tend to use the crunch channel the majority of the time. But when I'm playing some metal songs, I love the scooped tone from the Ultra channel, it's evil I've got to admit this amp is just awesome.

Re: My JSX review

i might sound like a noob here but i found the same with my peavey valveking..
the ultra lead channel as far to much on offer, way more than i need and acts the same with gain hitting 2/3, as the cruch channel on 5/6, but the lead channel is to brittley and to modern as im looking for a nice crunchy rhythm tone and a really 'smooth but with a bit of bite' lead tone, so i think were on the same level except yours is better

Re: My JSX review

Latest edition to my JSX clip library.

Here's 2 clips.

I just tried the POD in the loop of the JSX to add some effect and EQ possibilities. This clip you can hear me playing the same riff a few times turning the loop on and off. At the end is a little tappy thing with the loop on and off.

This clip is the 3 channels without and with the BD-2. Keep in mind, my Ultra channel was modded for LESS gain, this clip has the gain ALL the way up. I usually use the Ultra channel as my ryth channel, especially with my G&L Legacy (strat type) with the gain rolled back to about 25%.

You will hear 'noise' on the clips, my house is 100 years old, the wiring is old, I'm sitting in front of my PC monitor with my mixer sitting on top of the JSX, all lending itself to 'noise'. The JSX isn't generally a noisy amp.

Re: My JSX review

Very short clip of JSX at apt level and club level. Hardly any tone difference.

I'm not saying anyone should buy a JSX, just giving review and samples for you to make an educated choice with.

Lets hear your JSX clips!

JSX, crunch channel, everything straight up except the bass, which I run almost cranked. Boss DD-3 in the loop at the time (I use a GMajor now). No other effects.

JSX, ultra channel, again everything straight up except the bass. Gmajor in loop (delay and verb I think). Sorry for the crappy playing. I've had a 10 year hiatus I'm just getting back from.

JSX, clean channel, Gmajor with compression, a bit of delay and verb. People complain about the JSX clean channel not having any balls, but I like my cleans antiseptic, so I love it. I run the clean channel with the mids straight up and the treble and bass rolled back a bit.

JSX, ultra channel, Gmajor in loop with some delay and verb. Again, sorry for the crappy playing... I was partially tone deaf that day when it came to some of my bends (insert excuses here... 10 year layoff ... blah blah blah )

Very nice clips. Not bad playing man, you playing some not easy to play songs!
I like the sound you got for FTLOG, which settings did you use on the Ultra channel and how much delay and verb? I think maybe my digidelay is not good for that sound to nail, might need to change that...

Doesn't the JSX have a built-in noise gate? I think it is interesting they decided to have this built-in.

Thanks for sharing the clips guys.

I'll guess the new Legacy will have a higher gain channel for the new 3rd channel. It'll be nice to hear a comparison between the new Legacy and the JSX this coming year.

Re: My JSX review

Yes, there's a built in noise gate. The amp is certainly not noisy on its own though. I hardly ever hear mine. Obviously if you're running a lot of other stuff in front of the amp, you've got noisy pickups, etc, you're going to hear it...

Re: My JSX review

cable length, instrument cable in a big noodly mess with speaker and power cables, CRT monitors, gain pedels, noisy pups. yep, they all lend to noise. the jsx gate isn't very effective. it does help, and is better than nothing. but a ns2 at the end of your pedal chain is much better. I will now be running my pod direct out of the jsx line, next time I play live, i'll try running that way and go mic'less. clip of that on my 57/58 mic comparrison.
