Question Need a cheap(ish) overdrive

I'm using a Marshall AVT 100 combo along with the EVH phase 90 & 117 Flanger, the guitars i use live is a pre 90's RG550, original Floyd and a SD JB4 in the bridge and a S320 with a SD Screaming Demon in the bridge.
I need an overdrive that will add that little touch of gain and slight boost for a classic rock sound (i don't do mid free scooped sounds) that wont hurt my bank balance.
Is the Marshall Jackhammer any good?
Any suggestions would be a great help.

Digitech Bad Monkey is your best bet.

Mod a SD-1 with the monte allums SD-1 GT mod, definitely the best overdrive! as good as a tubescreamer - with a nice bottom end if you play metal

+1 for SD-1, it's basically a tubescreamer with few minor value changes.
Another choice is BBE Green Screamer which has true bypass and can be found for 60$ new (at MF I think)...looks like another tubescreamer derivative.

Re: Need a cheap(ish) overdrive

I tend to think true bypass distortion and overdrive are too far into the mix...... i have a true bypass chorus which is amazing though!

Re: Need a cheap(ish) overdrive

Ive heard good things about the danelectro cool cat transparent overdrive (£30), some have had it replace £200 pedals of their bored. Supposedly its similar to a Fulltone OCD.
Its also True Bypass, suprising for such a cheap pedal, only obvious downside is the way it looks

What's your idea of cheap? You can get a used TS-9 for $40 and a mod kit for $20--great sound plus cheap...

Fulltone OCD can be had for little over $100. Great pedal.

Re: Need a cheap(ish) overdrive

another vote for the Digitech Bad Monkey. I think it's about the best "cheap" OD out there. I also like the Hardwire Overdrive although the Fulltone recommendations are great too. The OCD is a fantastic OD but it's a little more pricey.

The Hardwire CM-2 Tube Overdrive is awesome if you have the coin. Brilliant versatile overdrive.

Re: Need a cheap(ish) overdrive

What is your budget?

I just bought a Blackstart HT-Dual, which is pricey, but awesome.

They make some single channel valve overdrive units. I expect you can get those second hand for not too many beans.

BB preamp from Xotic effects. Is a secret weapon, not a secret anymore.
You can watch tons of videos on youtube.
Is one of my best pedals, never play without it, and not a cheap one but worth the money.

The Fulltone OCD is phenomenal. Has a really good range on it, for barely distorting at all, to full on thick sound

Talking Re: Need a cheap(ish) overdrive

Thanks for the replys, my budget is around £90 ($140), i was wondering how good the blackstar pedals are, the overdrive unit is £109 in the UK. I'm going to pop down to one of the bigger music store and try the units you've suggested.

Cheers
