Need help redescovering my sound

Hello all, It has been a long while since Iíve been around these parts. Basically life happens. Here is my situation that I need some advice on.

I used to play through a Crate Blue Voodoo 300 (the monster 300 watt amp) pared with 4x12 celestion 70 Eightyís speakers and a dimarzio evolution or breed equipped guitar. The power of the amp was overkill but it had the exact tone I was looking for & the wife and neighbors were cool with me cranking it up during the day. Unfortunately I lost it all in the August 2016 Louisiana floods.

Fast forward to now, Iíve moved to a new house that didnít flood, everything is pretty much back in order and I picked up a Crate GT-50 Stealth 50 Watt combo amp. The speaker needed replacing so I put in a 12Ē celestion 70 Eighty. It is a cool little amp and does have a nice tone, itís just not the tone Iíve been used to for so many years. While Iíd love to get another Blue Voodoo 300, theyíre pretty hard to find & most likely the wife & new neighbors would not be ok with me cranking it up. So Iím looking to find my sound again.

Iíve come across a Crate Blue Voodoo 60 Watt 2x12 combo amp for an OK price but itís not in my area so I wouldnít be able to hear it in person. I have 2 main concerns, #1. Would this one give me the same (or very similar) tone as the BV 300 I had? 2. Iíve read a number of bad reviews about the BV combo amps being hissy or fizzy. I never had that problem with the BV 300. Are the reports accurate or is this people bashing crate amps like usual?

Back to the Stealth 50Ö Like I said I do like the tone but itís not quite my tone. It has the midrange crunch I like & I can adjust the Highs to an acceptable level but I find it needs just a little bit more Bass response. Keep in mind Iím playing through dimarzio breed or evolution pickups & a celestion 70 eighty speaker. Instead of searching for another amp could maybe a speaker change (maybe to a celestion Vintage 30) or a pickup change to something that has a little more bottom end do the trick?

PS sorry if my post got a little long winded.

Re: Need help redescovering my sound

Just a quick update.

I remembered I had an EQ pedal that survived the flood. I hooked it up through the effects loop and spent some time fine tuning everything. I think I got everything dialed in pretty well. It's not the exact tone I've been used to but it's pretty close & I'm happy with it. Now to duct tape the knobs down so the don't move LOL!

Hi, one of the big problems with 50 watt plus amps, is the need to crank them up to get 'that sound'. You should check out the massive range of 'lunch box' amps. These are typically 15-25 Watts but, with a decent speaker, are more than loud enough for a mid-size venue. I have a Carvin Legacy 3, that runs at 15-50 or 100 Watts (I rarely need more than 15) I do have a 2x12 125 Watt cab. But have not needed it for over 2 years! My 25 watt Vox 1x12 is way loud and takes less carring.
With the lower wattage is doesn't take much volume to get them singing. Check out the Orange Dark terror, bags of tone and shouldn't be much more than 300 dollars used!
