Ok...
Have you guys heard Merry Axemas by paul gilbert.. i really want to know what piockups and stuff he uses on that... That is the exact tone I'm going for. I need to know what pickups he is using. Most of his stuff with racer x is what I'm looking for. Thanks

Paul uses DiMarzio Tone Zone & JEM single coils now, but has also used PAF PROs & Humbucker From Hells.

You can check out the various PGM models and their specs here:

Is "Merry Axemas" a Gilbert tune? Because I know that he wasn't on either Merry Axemas CD.

Which of those models are high end as i'm sure they probably make some lower end ones... what necks are on them? looks like the wizard, but it doesnt say the neck for each one... Also why does he have fake f holes on it?

Sounds like you need to do some internet research

The only "low end" model is the PGM30, although it's quality has greatly improved with the introduction of the new Edge tremolo.

As far as I know, all PGM models except the PGM30, PGM600 & PGM700 come with the Wizard neck. The PGM30 comes with a Wizard II, but I'm not sure about the 600 & 700 since they've never been available in the US.

As for the fake F-holes...it's just Paul's sense of humor and sense of style. He's a big fan of cheap guitars from the 50's & 60's, most of which had F-holes. It's become his "signature"

Do some research and I'm sure you can find more in-depth explanations.
A good place to start might be the Racer X forum.

The PG3 is hardly even worth mentioning.

The PG3 is only available in Indonesian markets where counterfeits are commonplace-it's an ultra-cheap, Chinese-made model that is below "low end".

paul also has used the super distsrtion and super2 as well as his more popular tone zone/paf pro, fs1/jem single, humbucker from hell/paf pro rigs. most the old racer x stuff was super 2 and the iceman pgm700's are super distortions. keep in mind about PG's amps, too. ADA mp-1s, metaltronix(lee jackson), ampeg(lee jackson designed/modded), and the all powerful laney's are a huge contributor in PG's tone.

all this PG talk makes me miss my pgm500 thru my old mp-1
oh well...how are my dimarzio loaded rgs?
