Orange Amps

Got to try out a ThunderVerb 200 earlier today... pretty amazing little amp, if not the simplest and versatile guitar/bass tube amp conceived. I first heard word about this amp through a friend who's been saving money to pickup one of these. Tone is very British... the cleans are very "bright" like Marshall with that Mesa 'sparkle' and then some... it's not a "metal" amp per se but it can be with the turn of the shape knob! the built-in attenuator makes this amp sound great for live AND bedroom settings...
For those jemsiters in the UK, how much do these amps go for on that side of the world? I'd like to help my friend finding this amp for a good deal... maybe a get a Tiny Terror as well

Re: Orange Amps

New, theyre a little under £1300 ($2600) here, but on the bay I've rarely seen them make more than half that second hand. Either way, I can't imagine it's much more expensive to buy it in the states.

Re: Orange Amps

Orange's are awesome. Some of the thickest, most NWOBHM sounding tone I've ever heard. Too bad they're so expensive, or I'd buy a Thunderverb in a heart beat.

British amps are just ear candy, man.

It's an AD30 head. I've tried that one, and a Thunderverb, and both had the greatest British metal tone I've ever heard.

If I'm not mistaken, the AD30 has a separate preamp for each of its' two channels, and it's tube rectified.

Doesn't get much sweeter than that.

Re: Orange Amps

It has 2 channels with separate pre amps, but its twin channel, so there are 2 of the same channel. I have a different tube for channel 2 than I do for 1 so 2 is slightly brighter, but its not an apples and oranges difference. More like Red apples and Green Apples. I havent tried the Thunderverb but I was real close to pulling the trigger on a Rockerverb, but I went with a JCM 800 combo instead.

Re: Orange Amps

I would sleigh a dragon to get a Thunderverb 200. Its THE amp I want, but its stupidly expensive. I guess the only way to get one is to start saving up the pennies! or if anyone knows a Dragon they need ridding of?

Tiny Terrors look great too, but I dont think they have that much gain to them. They seem to be in the AC/DC'ish gain range where as I need more Guns N Roses/early Vai gain range.

+1000, I was really impressed with that thing when I played it, especially for the price.
