Peavey Jsx, Engl Powerball, XXX ?

Hi!
When I've saved up some money, my next buy will be a new amp. Living where I live I don't get to try things out (but I will sooner or later)

I would like to hear what you people think about the three amps over.

I'm looking for a versatile amp, but mostly metal/hard rock.

Thanks!

The ENGL Powerball is much better than both the others. The JSX comes second, and the XXX is the worse out of the bunch.

and also keep in mind that the powerball is probably twice as much as either of the other two

Incorrect: In Europe the Engl Powerball cost the same as a JSX and only a bit more then the tripleX.
Remember that Engl are a German company so they cost less here in europe.
Which is great for us since we are used to Paying way over the odds for american stuff (mesa, peavey, randall etc)

Re: Peavey Jsx, Engl Powerball, XXX ?

I've tried the Powerball once in a store. I had to play real low though, but the tone was really good. I tried it with a Rg 2550 I believe. It's just so much more expensive here in Norway so if I'm going to buy it, it's going to be ordered from the UK or some other country in Europe.

Thanks for the answers!

didn't take the "Europe" thing into consideration. Yes in that case you are right and lucky

How's the clean channel on the Engl?

I have to say the clean surprised me, it's a very nice warm sound which I have to say I really liked (played my friend's PB for a couple of hours). Clips don't do this channel justice.

Re: Peavey Jsx, Engl Powerball, XXX ?

I have a JSX and it's great.

I can't vouch for the other amps but the JSX has an incredible clean channel that does not break up whatsoever, it really is wonderful.

I use the crunch channel nearly all of the time, it has plenty plenty gain for anything besides absolute death metal, with eq/creative use of volume on your guitar you can get a great range of rhythm/lead tones.

From experience though you have to turn it up a bit for the gain to smoothen out, unfortunately i have to use it at low volumes a lot which means for lead work the gain can sound a bit harsh.

Do you have the head or the combo?

Is there a big difference in sound about those two also anyone?

Thanks for answers

I have the head.

Running it through my Marshall 2x12 and my mates Marshall 4x12 there's not much different in tone, so i guess the combo version would have plenty of bottom end if you decided to get that.

...I hope so, I plan on getting the combo...it's got a half power switch would should help for the smaller venues we plan to play..that being said, you can do the same thing with the head by removing some tubes and switching the impedence of the speakers...so I've read...the head sure looks better than the combo!!...on stage it must look great!

the engl's clean is immense, really like it.. in terms of value for money i think engl's are the best amps u can buy without having to fork out ridiculous ammounts of money on a mesa or bogner etc.. and i think the ENGL Powerball is better than a good hand full of mesas.

Re: Peavey Jsx, Engl Powerball, XXX ?

XXX is like all gain and no clean.

Haven't played a JSX (if it's the cleans of a Classic 50, Im sold though!).

ENGL Powerballs: I'd put them up with any Bogner and they cost less. They have a clean tone and mean distortion. You can't go wrong there!
