Re: Peavey XXX vs. JSX

The JVM is cool but may be a little too much for what I want. The DSL/TSL will probably leave me wanting a little more too. The Legacy is awesome but I need a gain on the clean channel at least. I've always liked the Lonestar and Stiletto amps (the rectifiers may find a place one day but not now) and I want a company like Ibanez that has superior quality and a lot of choices to offer. Trying to get passed the muffled sound Mesas are aquainted for and what I've heard, I'm wondering if my 10-band would work magic on these amps the way it did on my XXX. I just put my MXR through the computer speakers to hear the Stiletto and even the Lonestar and I could swear it was close to a Legacy. I want a sound similar to Vai basically because his guitars just cut like a knife whatever he plays. I'm starting another thread on opinions to get that sound with an EQ.

Re: Peavey XXX vs. JSX

I used a BBE sonic maximizer on a 5150 head and thru the FX loop it was night and day. There are other better devices to use but when I used it on the 5150 it sounded like a blanket was lifted off the speaker cab.

Just a thought I had when I read your post CCJ.

Screamin you said you play Mesas right? Did you try the BBE through them?

Re: Peavey XXX vs. JSX

I do own a couple Mesa's: F-50 1x12 and Mark IV 100wtt head but I don't own a BBE anymore and have never had the chance to try it out.

The F-50 is a little "darker" than my Fender '65 reissue 1x12 but the Mark series actually has a full clean sound rather than the "dark" sound alot of Mesas are known for. Try out a Mark series if you get a chance, it might fit your bill for what you're looking for. I haven't tried the newer ones but if they are anything like the late 80's early 90's version I have, they should sound awesome.

I use both the F-50 and a Fender '65 Deluxe (1x12) onstage (running stereo out of my DD-20 delay) so I'm currently getting the best of both worlds. Between the two amps, I am in tone heaven.

I am still looking into picking up a Roadster (possibly a head version).
