This thing is UGLY. For $800 (they aren't going to charge less than that) I'd like to see better UI design and nice large LCD screen, as a bare minimum.

LOL Yeah...I find that it's always a good idea to base the value of a rackmount unit on whether or not the faceplate is visually pleasing. That's definitely the #1 factor in determining it's worth and quality.

Where are you pulling $800 from?

I had heard a list price of $699... the current model lists for $899 and has a street price of $599. $599 is probably a safe bet for the street price of this unit too. In 12-18 months they'll be $450 on ebay

The only problem I see is I can't find a word clock in on the rear panel. That's essential to me.

Why do so many people give a crap about its appearance? I think if the tone's good and the controls serve their purpose, who friggin' cares?

Bingo! You're not paying for the looks. You're paying for the functionality, the tone quality, and the overall ease-of-use. I'm fairly sure that all of those things are a bit more important to Line 6 than giving a sleek, pretty faceplate.

Good stuff... that's a pretty teeny LCD for such a big unit, though. Even a large numeric LED for patch number would be good, though i expect most people who have one of these in a rack will have a floorboard, so the need to see the patch number from across the stage isn't critical.

Well, if the unit's appearance doesn't matter, why not just manufacture it in a plain metal box? The fact is that Line 6 put forth some effort to design the faceplate. If you're going to take the time, make it look decent. If not, put it in a plain metal box with buttons. Really, if it was manufactured in a plain metal box, it wouldn't sell.

Would it keep me from buying it, because it ain't pretty? No. I think they could've done better for the $$. The fact that it doesn't have tubes is what will probably keep me from it.
