Really basic question...

Just a really simple one, curious of the answer. Could any damage occur over time by having your guitar hanging from a guitar wall mount rather than using a stand? Just with all that weight of the guitar hanging from the top of the neck, wondering if overtime it would have any effect on the guitar? Thanks.

Re: Really basic question...

I highly doubt it, unless you're never going to use them and they're just going stay on the mounts for show only. The only things you will notice are changes in the tuning because wood expands and contracts, so adjustments will have to be made periodically.

Re: Really basic question...

You should be fine but just in case...
Two ways the guitar won't get damaged hanging on the wall:

1. Play it often so that it doesn't sit on the wall too long to even potentially warp
2. Make sure you hang it well so it doesn't fall off the wall. This is especially important in earthquake prone environments

Re: Really basic question...

I have a few guitars, so there's a high chance that say my first guitar might not get played for months at a time...

Re: Really basic question...

Y'know, with the quality of this house, get a couple of acrylic guitars or something as heavy, and you're probably not far from the truth.

I've got 5 guitars hanging on my wall and none of the hangers are screwed on studs

My secret?
