Recording Question (recording newb)

Hey, I am new to this recording process and just am wonding about a few things.

What would be the best way to record to a computer using Cakewalk Sonar?

Should I just get a decent instrument microphone and downsize it and just plug it into my soundcard direct, or is there a different approach?

I'm really not looking for any advanced features just something to get the tone of my playing (jem 7v though mesa nomad w/ 2x12 rect cab) recorded, I rather use a microphone I do not really like the line out feature.

Any advice/instruction would be greatly appreciated

Re: Recording Question (recording newb)

what i do in my personal studio is run mic'd cab to computer sound card just like you said, but if your sound card is on board you MIGHT get this feed back called latency i believe im not a uber recording studio engineer guy or anything but this is what ive been told from asking people on this very site. its feedback from mono to digital. but try it out
