Sansamps, soundcards and synths

I'm taking up home recording again (with the computer this time) and I have a couple of equipment questions.

1. I have the Sansamp GT2, but I have not much experience using it together with a computer. Would a DI-box like Behringer Ultra-G still be usable tool or would the Sansamp be good enough for laying down guitar and bass tracks?

2. I'll have to get a decent soundcard and I'm considering M-Audio Delta 44/66 (other suggestions?). That card has a preamp, so getting a mixer or standalone preamp would not be necissary, right?

3. And just out of curiosity: What do you guys use - soft synths or hardware?

1. the Ultra-G is so damn cheap that I would get it anyway. The Cab simulator in it is not amazing but does a fairly good job. With the DI and the SansAmp you should have enough to mess with to come up with interesting tones.

2. I don't know if m-audio changed it's specs but last time I check my Delta 44 didn't have preamps. It just had 4 balanced/unbalanced inputs and 4 bal/unbalanced outputs.

3. I use both for synths. I have 2 Korg MS-2000Rs, an Access Virus and an Alesis QS8.2 and the softsynths I use are Absynth, NI Pro-53, Linplug Sax Lab and Arturia's ARP2600 V. I also use Gigastudio but that's a sampler.
The synths on Reason are OK if you ask me, I used them a couple of times before I got the ones I listed.

Yeah, I'll probably get the Ultra-G anyway. It's cheap and looks cool, so why not?

As for the soundcards: You're right, it's the 1010 that has built in preamp.

Thanks for replying.

Re: Sansamps, soundcards and synths

I've been using hte Sansamp TRI AC and Sansamp Original to be my "amp" and it has a line level output (I believe) so you can just it the sansamp alone.. been doing that all the time. With a little bit of tweaking, your GT2 will sound fab. Okay... with a LOT of patient tweaking.
