A simple question about JCM800 footswitch

I've had this head forever. JCM800 2210. Dual channel. Comes with a simple footpedal that switches channels and turns reverb on off.

Lately, it doesn't make the switch from channels very well, and will sometimes switch back for no reason.

The cable to the footswitch seems like a very cheap instrument cable, and is my first suspect.

So my question(s).

What type of cable is this? I've got some extra instrument cable to test with, but didn't want to hose anything just testing.

Also, There are sturdier footswitches available new from MF. Marshall P802 Dual Footswitch listed is for JCM 900 series. Same button configuration. Anyone ever use one of these on a JCM 800?

Re: A simple question about JCM800 footswitch

Is it just a 1/4" jack on the cable? It could be the footswitch itself. Any 2 button footswitch with 1/4" jack should work. I used to have a Leem FS202 with my Classic 30, they're very strong footswitches.

here's a pic...

top middle. Just a cheap 1/4 inch cable. two internal wires. not insulated very well. really looks like a piss poor instrument cable.

So the JCM900 switch is a 1/4 inch jack 2 button switch as well. Any 2 button should work?

Re: A simple question about JCM800 footswitch

The two button JCM900 footswitch has a stereo jack.

In order to switch both channels and reverb yours must also have a stereo jack and stereo cable (three wires) A two wire instrument cable will not work.

BTW Quality is relatively uninportant as it doesn't carry sound, only a switching signal.

Thanks, I'll crack the cable again tonight to make sure I saw what I thought I saw, which was two wires, but it would not work at all if it was not a stereo jack.
