Some upgrade for my home rig!

Yes I did it!!

I had too much GAS recently, and on top of that, my 12 y old Hughes & Kettner Attax 80 is almost dead! (noisy knobs, soud cuts,...)

So I was looking for some new equipment for my home practicing and recording..... Time for buying gear, instead of a new guitar (I have already 17!)

After much research, I finally chose this great combination:

- H&K Tube Edition 20W
- a Damage Control "Solid Metal" Tube high gain disto pedal

That will result in a 3 channel all tube amp!
For clean and crunch, I'll use the 2 channels of the H&K, creamy tone, very usable. The H&K lead channel will be great for Satriani stuff and that kind of sounds...
Then for brutal disto, I'll use the DC pedal with its own EQ, for modern high gain OOMPH OOOMPH!!

I can't wait to have it!

I think it's a better option that to have a full tube combo at home that is too powerful at 50 or more Watts...

We'll see.. I'll post a review of it if someone is interested....

I think pics are a plus. Give people some time to reply.

Congrats. The HK amps aren't sold around here but I'd be interested in trying one out for fun none the less.

20wtts sounds perfect for home use. I'm looking at the new Express series from Mesa that has a 5wtt feature (5:50, 5:25 are the two models offered).

Re: Some upgrade for my home rig!

Yes I hesitated, but Mesa is way too expensive in Europe

I'll post pictures and a review as soon as I receive the amp and the pedal...
And maybe some clips!!

Re: Some upgrade for my home rig!

the clean channel is.... oh my. its perfect! so smoooth, makes your guitar sound the way its supposed to sound, i dunno how else to describe it. getting shivers just thinking of it. and the lead is awesome too, its almost got enough gain for metal, just almost, great for zeppelin and sometimes opeth-style sound you've made a really good decision my man, i got to compare the h&k and a peavey classic 30 amongst others, the h&k blew them all away

oh and incidentally, it handles a 7-string pretty well too, i'd like to see a review of that damage control pedal when you receive it if possible.....

Re: Some upgrade for my home rig!

I love all my H & K stuff (TriAmp MK II, Trilogy, Switchblade) and am fairly confident you'll love yours--the only thing is that with the H & K Statesman amps coming out soon, I might have waited to see which was better.

Re: Some upgrade for my home rig!

mmm... yes I did not thinj enough about the Statesman dual...

It's basically the same than the Tube edition, but with 2 other modes for the 2 channels: boost (on drive) and twang (on clean)....
Apart from that (and the look) it's exactly the same... even the dimensions...

Maybe it would have been better... Racerevlon, you have put the doubt in my mind now!!!

The statesman is about 250 more than the tube edition...
Anyway, I think it will be enough for my home use... I hope...

Re: Some upgrade for my home rig!

....

I just called the music store to ask if I could change my order from a Tube edition to a Statesman Dual EL84...

But before I was able to say anything, the guy said "Hey we just received your H&K tube edition!!"

Well I think it's called destiny... I had to have this one!

But it's great anyway... paying almost 200$ more just to have a "twang" button on the clean channel was too much! I have to save some money for future GAS!!!!

So I will take if after work and I'll post an extensive review after some hours of playing!!!

I can't wait to have it!!!
Stay tuned!
