Someone help me with this setup. I'm about to give up!

I have a 1994 Ibanez S540LTD BK with 2 PAF Pros & 1 FS-1 and a 2010 RGTA54MDX WH with Blackouts AHB-3 Mick Thomson EMTYs.

My amp is a Roland JC-120 circa 2010.
I have my pedals routed the following way.

AMP - BOSS RV-5 - BOSS DD-3 - BOSS PS-5 - BOSS DS-1 - BOSS CS-3 - DUNLOP CRYBABY - GUITAR

I am asking for suggestions on a clean sound with all the pedals turned off and a distorted sound. I like Vito Bratta's sound and Joe Satriani's sound.

If any of you fellas have suggestions on setting up the knobs on all these pedals, that would be great. I JUST can't find a good sound I like. I'm pretty much tone deaf. TIA.

You're going to have to just find the settings you like.
I suggest running the modulation effects through the amp FX loop, though.
Also--you're not going to get Vitto or Nuno's tones with that setup.

well, I can't help you with the distorted tone, you have to figure that out, but for a clean, make sure you are using the right side channel so you can use the JC's chorus. I like using the high input with the bright button off. Also if any of your pedals have 2 outs, you may want to run those on the separate sides of the amp to get stereo sound. this would mean running in front of the amp instead of the loop but I never had a problem...good luck! Its about time someone mentioned Vito. what an under-rated player!

Re: Someone help me with this setup. I'm about to give up!

There are very few if any pedals that can give pro quality distortion tones.
They may sound good in your living room but once you play with a drummer, kiss that tone you thought was good goodbye.
Pedals give very thin ratty sound distortion in my opinion.
You need real tube(s) or very very good amp modeling to achieve really great tone.

Amps or heads themselves can ruin or limit tone too.
An amp or head is a preamp and a power amp all in one box.
The preamp is a bottleneck that only allows some additional tone through the amp or head.
The best you can do is setup a good big fat clean tone and then add you distortion pedal(s).

This is why I gave up pedals and heads years ago, I've been a rack guy for over 20 years.
