Steve vai jemini distortion pedal horrible feedback help

Hey guys just joined to ask a question. I just received the pedal all excited and the green side there is quite alot of feedback and when I turn the volume off on the guitar the amp humms and the red side wow a nasty loud humming and I can't even play. And the green site when I do play sounds very similar to my amps tone im using distortion and im using a line 6 spider valve hd100 MKII half stack. Can anyone help thanks alot

Are you using it on the distortion channel or clean? How high do you have the gain on the pedal and the amp?

the green side is a OD/Boost to be used with your Amps built in distorion channel, the red side will have ALOT more boost and is disgined to be used with the clean side of your amp.

Re: Steve vai jemini distortion pedal horrible feedback help

I see. The gain on my amp is set mega high. And did not sound very different to my amps sound. I tried the red side with clean channel and it still sounded bad the humming is horrible on red side especially. So what exactly shall I do in order to get the pedal sounding right? Thanks you two

Well if you want to use the green side set the gain low and volume high on the pedal to use it as a boost to thicken up your tone. The red side should work fine on the clean channel, but if you max the gain on it, it can get pretty crazy. in general, turn your amp gain down. Having it too high thins out your tone and ruins dynamics.

Also of note, are you running off batteries or an AC adapter. Sometimes the wiring from the AC adapter can introduce hum and possible ground loop issues, to the signal and a 9v battery can help with that.

Re: Steve vai jemini distortion pedal horrible feedback help

I have the jemini and mine is very quiet, no buzz or hum.

I find it only lasts a day on batteries so thats not very practical,
maybe ok for testing to see if its your power suppy.

I am surprised by the comments about the red side, to me it has not much gain for a distortion pedal, its a cool smooth distortion that i like but as pedals go I find its fairly mild.

Try it through the clean channel, should be almost no hum there.

If it is humming I would suspect the power supply or the cables.

Do you have flourescent lights ? try turning them off when its humming and see if that makes a difference.

Sounds like you want a distortion,

to me the Jemini is really an overdrive, I know Steve Vai calls it a distortion but i know better than him.

I think its a good pedal but its not a triple rec heavy metal sound,
its designed to enhance the tone of your amp, not create a heavy distorted tone.

It was not designed for Heavy Metal.
Steve Vai's Sound is a Smooth even distorted tone, with tons of sustain, add chours, delay, and an EQ and Wow what a tone.

Re: Steve vai jemini distortion pedal horrible feedback help

yes, but I am a bit confused.

Jemini should be perfect for creamy lead tone,

but you say The gain on my amp is set mega high,
Thats not the way to get creamy lead.

do you want harsh cutting distortion or smooth creamy warmth ?

My 3 favourite pedals atm are all handbuilt cloneish analog things that arent made anymore so no point in suggesting them, anyway i am not sure what you want.

Lol im not sure how to explain what I want. The vai pedal made no difference to the tone no matter how much I tweeked. Guess I'm after a vai like tone also love tremonti's lead tone with alter bridge . Just a slick smooth pretty heavy lead tone. Sorry im bad at explaining
