Strange processor question???

We all know there are some effects that belong before your pre-amp and some that belong after. If these effects are in the wrong places they just dont sound right and dont accomplish the job they were intended to do.

I am wondering if there are any processors out there that allow you to place these effects in the correct places? I would think someone would have the brains to make a processor you can hook up pre and post amplifier to attain optimal effects processing with a single unit.

Hi,

the Boss GX700 and some other Boss and Rolands MultiFXs offer you a loop where you can either place another FX or the preamp. Furthermore the GX700 allows you to put the Effectschain in any order you like.

My guitar goes into the GX700 for dynamic FX (like Compressor, Wah, Distortion), then into my Marshall JMP1, back into the GX700 for Modulations (Delay, Chorus etc) and then into the poweramp.

sounds like a great idea. I havent heard much about those processors. How do they match up to a G-major/force or the like?

Imagine the GX700 as a rack unit with several Boss-Pedals integrated. Distortions and Overdrive are analogue, most (all???) other FX digital.

The way I use it you sure have a loss in singal quality (no matter which way you put it the singal will pass the AD/DA-Converter.

As for a comparrison with TC Major/Force or Lexicon... I started building my rack with the GX700 and test with the "high-end" units came afterwards. They didn't convince me... but that is a matter of taste, I think. At least you should be able to try out the Boss GT6, a pedalboard which offers the same features (the loop should be there) only is it newer.

BTW: the GX700 is nearly the same as the GT3 or GT5, only the rack-version.
