Tatoo amps

Does anyone here have any experience with Tatoo amps?

This is a shot in the dark I know. Its a very small company and not even the guys day job. Still some of the best gear I have comes from boutique builders who only make the stuff in thier spare time. They usually have the best cusomer service.

Anyway this guy makes a Plexi clone im looking to get. Just curious if anyones ever played one. It was highly recommended to me by my sound guy. All hand built, PTP boards, hand wound tranny's, etc....

A friend of a friend has a tatoo 50 watt Plexi clone and he likes it. They are reasonably priced. I think his was under $1000 and the owner is very helpful. They have a web site and I think I saw some reviews on H-C if you haven't checked that out yet. The guy I know if kind of a SRV type player and doesn't need real nasty tones like a VHT or Uberschall can generate. He likes it a lot and hasn't had any issues. If the tranny goes I wonder how long of wait for one to be made?

Ive talked with the guy and looked at the website. If a tranny goes Im not worried. Im pretty sure he just buys from a hand wound builder. I have enouph electronic knowledge to replace the tranny with a mercury magnetics handwound myself.

I just wanted to know if anyone knew aout or played one. He seems like a good guy.

Ive posted many times that I play a Soldano SLO or a Bogner XTC which is true for the cover circuit or for certain sounds, but mainly I love the classic drive of a plexi.

He told me the wait would be 4-6 weeks and he sends regular photos of the progress. Ive pretty much decided Il give him a try.

Did you see the cabs the guy builds? They look pretty damn solid. Great construction- made out of birch. You might as well get a cab too so you can have a nice tatoo half stack.
