TC Electronics G-Major: Mein Kampf
Thought I'd post this as a testiment to TC electronics service department and the G-Major.
I've been using a G-Major for about 2 years now. I love the effects, find it pretty transparent, and the features are increadable. It does add some noise to my rig... but not that much at all. I used it for the first year w/o incident.
The second year, I flew to a gig and when I got home it wouldn't power up. I sent it in and they fixed it (said it was caused by static electricity). Got the processor back and for a couple of months of regular gigging.. no trouble. Then one night, 30 seconds into the first song... dead.
The unit was still lit, the input and out put meters had a fixed signal at maximum... but no noise. I pressed bypass... nothing. A quick yank of patchcords from the amp loop and I gigged w/o FX.
TC Fixed it... sent it back 2nd day air b/c I had a big show, free of charge! When I got it in... the box was a G-Major, the unit was a TC electronics D-Two. (I joked that they could have sent a G-Force instead). I called, they apologized... 2nd dayed my G-Major, in a D-Two box, and picked up the D-two.
Took my G-Major... straight into the studio to do a few spots for a local radio station (they are footing the bill and paying me well, so I needed to be on top and not have any problems), second day of studio time... dead. Once again lights up, no sound.
Called them, explained how much I love the sound of the unit... but am scared to use it now b/c it's not reliable.
Apologies and they decided to replace the unit with a new one. Cool.
I send the old one in and wait for about two weeks... no processor. I call again... My contact guy (Filip) is in Canada on Vacation! NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT MY PROCESSOR!!!!!!
At this point, I'm gone. I loose it. The guy (Brian) on the phone tells me maybe I need to consider buying a back up! I explain that I've never needed a back up with any other processor I've owned... but I'm looking at Lexicon. He gets nice, says he's sorry and will do what he can to find out anything... never heard from him again.
My contact guy (Filip) finally gets back in town. Is Very sorry. Seems my unit got sent to the wrong department instead of shipping!!!!!
I'm ok, I explain how bad I need this unit. I gig at least two to three nights a week... I need it like, last month!!! Here we go again, he overnights a brand spankin new G-Major to me, in the sealed plastic bag. I open it... seems to work fine... except. Nothing in the Chorus block works. No chorus, flange, vibrato... nothing. As a matter of fact if I turn the mix up to 100% the signal is muted.
Here we go again, I call Filip. He apologizes. Tells me this sounds like a software problem. Tells me I should download version 1.07 (the old version) to see if it works. I do... no deal.
So here I am, in the middle of a huge gig schedule with a processor that has no chorus type fx... but at least works.
I gigged with it for the last month and a half, using detune for a slight chorus... but mainly doing w/o any type of modulation fx. I've got two weeks off now and this past Friday they sent Fedex to pick it up (side not my Boxer took off after the Fedex man... who let out the highest pitched scream I've ever heard. He's ok, the dogs only tough acting if you run away). And now I wait for another new unit.... I asked them to open the box this time and make sure it was working fine before they send it.
I'm tempted to sell it as soon as it comes in and buy something else, but I know 4 people using the same unit w/o a single problem and I do like the unit... when it works!
OK, just needed to vent a little there.
Any suggestions on what I should do?
