Re: Teaser review of the Carvin Steve vai Legacy VLD1 preamp
Two days ago, I received my VLD1 (personally autographed by Steve Vai.).
I'm totally impressed by this thing!
I've never played a Legacy amp before and I have no desire to sound like
Steve Vai; not that I could if I wanted to. My interest in this tone machine
is all about a life-long quest to find "MY" tone. Like most guitarists, I've bought
and re-sold many dirt pedals, trying to find "THE ONE". Well, with all the
versatility and quality packed into the VLD1, if I still can't find my tone, it
obviously doesn't exist.
I am sure that there will be many in-depth reviews on the VLD1 by people more
qualified than I. Most of the reviews will likely focus on the over-driven tones.
So here's a couple of things you probably won't hear about the VLD1:
- The clean channel is just as amazing sounding as the over-driven channel.
The clarity, articulation, punch and dynamics of the clean channel will
inspire you to play clean more often.
- If you record direct (no amp) or plug straight into a PA you will be amazed
at what you hear coming from the the cab voice output jack. At first, I
was skeptical because there is no way to tweak the cab simulation.
Now I'm a believer! There's nothing there to tweak, its perfect!
