Tell me about then JMP-1?!?!

I found a tone on my pod xt pro that was based on a marshall preamp. Jmp-1

The tones i was getting are exactly what I was looking for for my solo tones! Especially with my maple boarded 550.

I had been thinking about building a rack unit and just getting a 2x12 cab to play through.

Anyone got any thought on the jmp-1??? I have never delved into the rack idea before but from reviews and such, it fits into what I want in a lead sound and crunchy rhythm sound.

Thoughts?

You might search around on the Marshall Forum. There's a few threads over there about the JMP-1.

Here's one to get you started:

I want one, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Re: Tell me about then JMP-1?!?!

I've played the JMP-1, it's very similar to the ADA MP-2.
I like the ADA MP-2 better, it has chorus, Wah Wah, Noise Gate and a Stereo Effects Loop.
The ADA MP-2 also has a really nice mid sweep knob that lets you go from boost to notched.

Both units sound very tube, because they have tubes in them.
My only gripe is they both sound a little compressed and lack a little bit of the natural feel of a real tube head.
This fact doesn't bother me enough not to own the ADA MP-2.

I also have an ADA MP-1, I run it with a Rocktron Pro-Q (Programmable Parametric EQ), because it doesn't have enough bass.
The MP-1 doesn't have the compressed tone issue, it sounds like a real tube amp, just 100 times better than any head I've ever owned.
I dumped my original Peavey 5150 back in the early 90s when I ran my ADA MP-1 Pro-q against it.
The ADA made the 5150 sound like a tiny little clock radio in comparison.

All of these units are run with a multi-effects processor for Reverb and so on.

My main unit now days, is the Rocktron Prophecy, it takes the cake!
The Prophecy has everything in one unit with lots of memory to run everything I want in one patch pre tone.
It also has a speaker simulator that can be run through the XLR outs for recording, it sounds like you have a real cab with a mic.
The 1/4" outs can be run to your rack power amp at the same time to play live and do recordings.
It has a stereo FX Loop and many other nice backside features, I could go on.
The dead silent Wah Wah is the best one I've ever used, I sold all my Morley Wahs.

I gave up amps and pedals back in the late 80s early 90s altogether for racks.
I've owned everything but an Axe FX, just haven't needed to go there since I bought my Rocktron Prophecy years back.
I can create any tone I want from Jazz to Thrash!

Re: Tell me about then JMP-1?!?!

you've gotta be kidding comparing a 5150 to an MP-1, I've had both and the tone of the 5150 just kills the MP-1, set it up straight and let 'er rip...

Never liked it.
To me sounded muffled with no definition.
When I got my rocktron voodoo valve it was like from a 1960 volvo to a ferrari.
Then when I got my first triaxis, it was from a ferrari to the Enterprise

I came close to getting a Triaxis a few times, but the Prophecy is hard to beat.

What are you using now for a rig?

With rig you mean gig?
Gt10.
I'd never take a 3000 dollars triaxis(+ 2.ninety 1700 dollars + marshall 1960 cab 2000 dollars + 900 dollars tc gmajor) to a pub to play covers.
The audience doesn't know the difference from a volvo to a ferrari

I'm the same way about good gear.
I have six rigs and not all of them leave the house.

sorry to hijack the OPs thread...

...would you say the voodoo valve was a good buy then? ive just been reading about it on the rocktron website, but i cant find any information about its specs etc - what valve does it use? how many channels? are there any effects built in, or is it just a preamp and nothing else?

Re: Tell me about then JMP-1?!?!

All good info, never thought about a rack mount preamp so knowing what is out there is a good thing!

The Voodoo Valve and the Chameleon are the same unit, the Voodoo has one 12AX7 in it to warm up the tone.
I thing the Chameleon sound warm too.
They both have five different channels or voicing that can be selected for any of the 128 presets.
It has all the effect you can ask for-
Distortion
Chorus
Reverb
Delay
Flanger / Phaser
The same Killer Wah Wah that comes in the Prophecy
Graphic and Parametric EQs
Chromatic Pitch shifter, you can make up to three part harmonies
Stereo or mono on most of the effects

Tones of MIDI control capabilities
The tone you can get from it is as good as your tweeking.
I can get any tone I want out of my Rocktron units.
The list goes on, 90% of the Rocktron units are very under rated

Re: Tell me about then JMP-1?!?!

I know I remember reading that Bill Leverty of Firehouse was using the voodoo valve preamp live for a while, maybe like ten years ago.

Re: Tell me about then JMP-1?!?!

I recorded this song using only voodoo valve direct to pc.
Rich distortion and awesome effects, rocktron chorus to me is the most beautiful chorus ever.
