Thinking about a rack rig

Hey guys!

I'm thinking about making a rack rig for my dream tone. I'm looking to get a van halen type tone with a johnson type clean. Can anybody reccomend me some rack items that could make for a great setup and maybe also include some prices/pics.

I'm thinking about this:

Mesa Power Amp
Marhshall JMP-1 Power Amp
BBE Sonic Maximizer
Rocktron Super C
Korg Rack Tuner
Furman Power Conditioner

Re: Thinking about a rack rig

You mean a JMP-1 preamp, no?

I think a Marshall preamp should to the trick for these tones. You'd probably want some fx processor (TC Electronic G-major or a Rocktron Expression could be good choices there), and a MIDI controller (say Rocktron MIDI mate, or the Behringer one). Mesa power amp is a good choice from what I hear, though you need to decide how much power you will need. I think the 2:20 should work for most applications. I personally don't think that the BBE and the Hush are that essential, but I have never used them, so I wouldn't know. I just never felt the need to have something like this in my rig.

Re: Thinking about a rack rig

For anyone looking to mix and match preamp tones, I would recommend the Randall RM4. I've had mine for a couple of months now and I'm still blown away by how good it is.
