Tube amp 300-350$

I will be playing mainly some metal, classic rock and some blues(will use it mainly as practice amp and for small gigs if possible)
I have a roland 15 w solid state amp,so dont have any experiences with tube amp(noob)
also isnt it good to have a tube amp if intend to change the stock pups.
I liked this amps tones but dont know how well it plays metal(its 800$too) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5e_4NVoZp1U
maybe a laney lc 15(but it has only one channel)?what are my choices?
thank you all

B-52 AT100--hands down, the best 100w tube head for the money!

On a side note--what do changing pickups have to do with a tube amp? Changing stock pickups to, say--DiMarzios, will sound better on any amp.

Most people like the sound of tube amps better. DiMarzios and Duncans will sound better on either amp, though.

Not a fan of the B52 or Bugera garbage. Cheap bottom of the barrel stuff, I would much prefer the cheap Laney.

The ONLY problem with the B-52's are the irons in the combo amps overheating. The heads have NO heat problems that I found on the net........He's going to get crappy chinese irons in ANY 100w head in the price range he's looking at.

I've had the AT-100 for years now.......the only thing I've done is re-tube it. Still kicking ass and gigging regularly (Damien is using it for his death metal stuff).

I wouldn't count out the Peavey Vypyr amps, which are within your $300 price range...they have both tube and solid state combos - I have the Vypyr 30 and it's a deadly little amp...listen to 6fingers recordings or the guy who did the peavey vypyr 30 experiment on youyube to give you an idea of the wide range of great tones you can get from the vypyr - there are also reviews on the vypyr 30 in the Jemsite reviews section...

Re: Tube amp 300-350$

Two words - Used Market. You can get some really nice used tube amps in that price range. Used Blackstar HT-5 and HT-20s, Peavey Classic 30 if you're lucky, there's a lot out there, especially if you can identify some amps you want and be patient waiting for a good deal to come along. Furthermore, if you're able to be a little patient, maybe upgrade your pickups first, and save a little money, I highly recommend that over buying something just because it's cheap.

Re: Tube amp 300-350$

lots of great amps listed here but I don't think any of those would come in within a $300 budget...except the vypyr...if you can spend $400 on a Legacy that would be nice (I have a Legacy and I think they are fantastic amps) but it might be more amp than you need - you would also need to get a cabinet unless andrewsfury's Legacy is a combo...

Re: Tube amp 300-350$

The Blackstar would. The HT-5 has enough juice for small gigs. I use mine all the time for gigs with a 1x12" Vintage 30 speaker. I've seen them used in the US market for around $3-400.

I have heard great things about the HT series...there is actually a used HT-5 combo on CL here for $350...

I love mine! You can find a used 1x12 version around $200-$250. Throw a cheap EQ in the effects loop and it kills!
