Tube amp for shred/ prog rock?

Ok, so i was about to buy the Jet city Jca 2112( Jca20 112 combo), when i found a Peavey xxx 112 combo for nearly the same price. I will be playing progressive rock/shred(kind of like vai, satriani, and a bit of van halen there too) and will be using an Ibanez s470 with Dimarzio evolutions, so i want the amp to be very dynamic and responsive, and have enough gain for vai/satriani stuff.
So, what is the best choice for me?

I'd go the Jet City, and if it doesn't have enough gain for you get an overdrive pedal.

Seriously though, try them both yourself. Pick the one YOU like best.

i obviously would, but there are none in my country(latvia), and im ordering them from germany. While i know that one should not buy gear without testing it, but i have no choice, so im trying to narrow it down.
and btw, wont an overdrive pedal kill dynamics?

I'd probably get the XXX for Satch/Vai and anything heavy. The Jet Cities are nice too though...

I'd go with the Peavey, personally. It's extremely versatile, and you will have more gain than you could use.

Re: Tube amp for shred/ prog rock?

I believe that it does but tone is completely subjective. The XXX is a quality amp and I believe the JSX (Satriani's sig for the past 5 years) was in many ways based off the XXX's dirty channels.
If that's the tone you're looking for, it'll do. There's also a myriad of pedals out there if the particular crunch/lead tones don't do it for you.

If it were my choice--the Peavey! Try them both out and see which you like best, Waht's good for one, might not be for another.

For shred and prog I'd also recommend Hughes & Kettner TriAmp, Krank Revolution + or a Laboga Mr Hector.
