tube question....

ok, so my Triple Rectifier and I have had a glourious relationship since 99. Recently, it started make a noise that sounds like crackling so Im pretty sure that its time for new tubes [i know, its terrible I waited til now to change the tubes.].

my question is, the store doesnt sell the power amp tubes and I have shows all this weekend that I have to have the head for. If i just replace the 12-ax7 tubes and the 6l6s and not the 54uG, will it still sound fine and shortly after [like, 3 weeks i think they said it would take for those 54UGs to come in] replace them? will this do any damage to my amp?

im new to this tube thingy.

I would have said not.... I think you'll be fine as long as the ones you DO replace are in matched pairs (I think this mainly applies to the Power Tubes)

Personally, I would change the 12AX7's first to see if it solves the problem, Then the 6L6's. then the 54UG's when they arrive. You will at least then know which ones are causing the noise!

odds are it's not the 12AX7s, it's your power amp tubes.
