The PAW book reads that he used 7 different Marshall heads, and Carvin, Rockman, ADA, Marshall, Mesa Boogie etc. pre and power amps . So I can't really second that. It doesn't mention the X-100B, anyway. It's a page filled with stuff Must be somewhere on the net...

Considering the amount of effects that track has, I think the amp is almost irrelevant

I think Blue Powder was originally released on a flexy insert of Guitar Player magazine. At this time, Steve was appearing in ads for the carvin x100b.

Dave is right...Vai and Carvin released Blue Powder on a flexible record as a way of promoting the X-100B and the bass amp as well. A reasonably loud Marshall will suffice in a pinch though...with tons of compression, reverb and delay....oh, and a harmonizer, two pinches of salt and the kitchen sink.

Blue Powder was an X-100B demo tune. I still have the Guitar Player soundpage to prove it.
