Re: What do you think about vox amps

which Vox?? there are tube ones and modeling ones.. and other ones..

edit: Oh that was "any amp from the company".. ok.. I havent' owned them, but the valvetronix was ok; better than line 6 modeling amps IMO, but doesn't live up to a tube amp. I've never played any tube driven Voxs.

Re: What do you think about vox amps

I have the Vox AD50VT and have had it for about 4 months now. I really like it for practicing. It's so easy to dial up a quick sound whether is be high gain or clean. I've also used it for a couple of gigs and it performed perfectly. One gig was mostly clean jazz like sounds and the other was classic rock and I was pretty pleased with the sound and versatility. It sustains nicely especially with the noise gate turned off.
When I'm practicing it's usually Yngwie, Satch, Vai, Zakk, Mettalica and I've been able to dial up a pretty authentic sound for each. By the way I'm using with it an RG570 with EVO in bridge.

Re: What do you think about vox amps

I own a 92 Limited Edition of the Vox AC30TBR, from when Korg first took them over, before they thinned out the tone a lot on the AC30s.

It is quite a nice amp. About 6 years ago, I had the tubes replaced. Thought it needed biasing so I brought it to a tech. It's cathode so the tubes are pretty much plug and play, but the guy charged me $80 for labor and $80 for tubes. Around new years earlier this year I saw what was in there for tubes - RCA Blackplates, $160 for 4 of them. My friend had 4 brand new JJ EL84s and we put them in for the hell of it, but they sounded nothing close to 6 year old, heavily used RCA blackplate EL84s!
