What does everyone think of the Crate Blue Voodoo??

I had a two 12 combo and it broke down twice in the first month. *When it worked it sounded fine, but it needed repairs to often. *Now I'm using a JCM800 and it can take a beating without ever needing repairs.

The Voodoo combos, as well as the lower end Voodoo heads are not worth the money. *Why do you think they are all discontinued. *And they will not be replaced. *Forget the low end models. *The voodoo 120watt head is one bad-ass amp. *The band i'm in is performing every wednesday night locally this summer. *Last night we were on the bill with a jazz trio. *The we jammed with them in the end. *(must be that G3 stuff rubbing off...) *My Voodoo's tone gets me comments every time! *The trumpet player was floored at what he heard. *For fun we also hacked through a cover of "For the Love of God" (must be that damn G3 the night before...) and the drummer calls me today and just goes "damn, F.t.l.o.g. sounded amazing, it was right on." *Voodoo has wild tone. *You just have to know how to get to it. *Maybe i will post some clips of my voodoo. *Unmodded and still factory original tubes. *Always play out with it. *Never once has it given me a problem of any sorts. *Am i the only one on here that has had good experience with a Voodoo? *I swear by mine. * *

Re: What does everyone think of the Crate Blue Voodoo?? - I happ

I the 120w blue voodoo head that I play on an old 80's music man cab with 2 12" celestions (sometimes I hook up the other identical cab for 4 12" celestions). The amp is great, but it is just a pure tube amp. I think that is why people don't like it, they don't understand it... The clean channel is extraordinary and as you increase volume and gain you can come out with a great tube distortion sound too, but you need to be at like 8 volume for it to really crunch the way you want it too. Add a tube screamer or delay or whatever you want to get the sound you want with great base tone...

If I were to complain: it just doesn't sound the same at low volume levels (like most tube amps i believe) and I think the 120W is too much power for my 2 speakers, but it sounds good, I just think that eventually I am going to rip those suckers apart.... In reality, for most gigging players, 30-60 watts should do fine... 100+ watts probably is a little overkill...
