I've heard a sound clip of a Plexi and a Fulltone OCD on the Fulltone website. It sounded great.

www.carlmartin.com

Their Plexitone pedal is getting some of the best reviews I've ever seen, for this type of thing. I'm most definetly going to get one when I can.

I use an old Japanese DS-1. What is the difference to a Keeley modded one?

Well the best way t get dist from an old Marshall is to dime it.

I use a unmodded DS-1 for a little more distortion. It works nicely to add distortion and not shape your sound.

Diming a 4 holer can be dangerous to your ears neighbors and family although it is an experience evryone should have.

To my ears the stock DS-1 and the Ultra colors the tone. To push the 4 holer without changing the tone is more into clean boost teritory. I use a Keeley Katana clean boost for that.

To get info on the Keeley DS-1 ultra I would check his website it has clips too.

a ds-1 imo is too much gain to boost the amp. Get a Overdrive pedal. try the MXR ZW one. I have both the ds-1 and the ZWMXR and the ZW is way smoother sounding and doesnt overload the original signal with too much pedal gain.

I guess I should have mentioned I cannot crank the amp to much here at home... now at a club is a different story. But not much..

Voo Doo Lab Sparkle Drive.

It has a TS-808 cloned OD section and a transparent clean boost. By adjusting the gain and clean knobs, you can dial in just the amount of clean or overdrive to your taste.

True bypass and made in the USA.

I heard great things about that pedal, I was thinking of getting one at some point to drive my Yamaha preamp, as an alternative to getting a TS9 or something.

Other pedals I heard good things about:

Maxon TS9
Analogman modded Tubescreamers/Maxon pedals
If you just want a boost there is also the MXR micro-amp.
