What should I do?

So im going to either buy or make my own 2x12 cab. What would you recommend i do? I have found a nearly brand new marshall 1936 for $300, or i could make my own cab.
WGS speakers, veteran 30's, $80 a piece
Everything else needed for the cab would be $220(including the speakers), so thats everything but the wood
Probably about $40 for the ply wood.
The marshall is made from partical board, and has the same speakers as the 1960. Is making my own really worth it?

Making your own decent cab will be more expensive and a bigger pain in the butt then you think its going to be.

I also recommend you redo your math hahaha

Re: What should I do?

Yep it has the same speakers, G12T-75, two of them.
well i guess i sould have been more clear, this isn't a cheap marshall product, so i will expect it to be good. Im getting a really good deal on the cab, the guy says its 6 months old, and he's only used it about 3 times, and its just been sitting around.

When you go check it out, make damn sure you play through it. I know it sounds like it would be obvious to do so. Also check his other equipment. If his other stuff is in good shape, its usually a good indicator of how he treated his cab.

That said, GET IT! I looked at reviews and its a pretty sweet little cab. I will probably get one at some point

Heck, you could score a used Marshall MG412 for $100 on CL if you really wanted to...

Re: What should I do?

Building your own cab will be more expensive than buying a Marshall.
But building a better sounding one is dead easy!

Re: What should I do?

Here's what I made and it cost me approx. 300$ including head material.

Combo to head+212 oversized cab conversion loaded with Celestion Classic lead 80's. And this is in Croatia, where speakers and everything needed is more expensive than in USA. Used 1936 here costs about 500$.
And it sounds way better than 1936, as Death by G string said...

Re: What should I do?

Well, if i do make my own, i would use Wgs veteran 30's. ive heard they're better than vintage 30's. I will probably just buy the 1936.

Re: What should I do?

You could get a Voltage cab: http://www.steamcomusic.com/catalog/...itar-cabinets;

Or a Traynor: http://www.long-mcquade.com/products...on_Cabinet.htm

Or a Saxon: http://www.saxon-cabs.ca/cabs12.html

All 3 are available in Canada, and none have particle board in their construction. Unless you're getting a deal on the Marshall cab....

Re: What should I do?

Well the thing is i am getting a good deal on the marshall. $300, and the owner says its 6 months old, and he's only used it about 3 times. So its basicly brand new.

Re: What should I do?

I'll echo the others--it's going to cost more than you think to build one. Especially if you don't already have the proper tools. If you have no experience in building, then you can expect your materials estimate to go up in regards to the mistakes you'll make. Remember--measure twice, cut once...
