I saved up money from odd jobs to buy a $49.00 Kay amp. It had a volume and a tone control. The cabinet was made of 1/2" particle board and housed a 6" speaker.

I blew up the amp by cranking an EH Big Muff Pi through it. The guitar went in a trade for a '60's Yamaha classical.
I still have the Yamaha!

Re: WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST GUITAR / AMP combo and at what age?

I started playing 4 months ago, at age 34. Try not laugh too hard. Back when I was 20, I spent a few thousand dollars on a keyboard with an on-board sixteen track recording facility. I decided to go that route for awhile. Now that I have accomplished what I wanted to on a musical level with that, I saved up some cash and bought an Ibanez RG 320FM and a Peavey Blazer 158 Amp. I also bought a Digitech Whammy, and a Boss Metal Zone. Now that I am progressing nicely I will be purchasing a Tubescreamer very shortly.

I was 14 in '86. Got a MIJ Strat for my birthday and a little Peavey SS amp. Man did my folks get tired of hearing Iron Man!
