YOUTUBE VIDEO---Brass and TITANIUM floyd upgrades bigblock IBANEZ RG

89 RG+floyd upgrades big blocks (titanium and brass)= this movie

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs0ocWMlRvA

1989 RG with Dimarzio Evo "Neck" in bridge position, stock ibanez single coil, and a Dimarzio Humbucker From Hell in the neck position

Straight into a MAKO MAK2 head into a Port City 2x12 (no effects plugged in or being used)

The brass block is great and a steal for the dough.
The titanium block is the best thing i have ever heard.
What do you guys think?

1:01-1:35 clean stock 1:37-1:55 dirty stock

2:18-2:51 clean BRASS 2:56-3:56 dirty BRASS

4:23-5:08 clean TITANIUM! 5:13-6:21 dirty TITANIUM!

It doesen't sonund different really, at least not in the video.

What is theoretical basis behind these new blocks that is meant to improve tone?

youtube quality... i will try and expand the file and see if i can get the sound clips of better quality but there is an absolute difference in person. Also i know it sounds weird other than the tone, the guitars FEEL was better, the strings just vibrated the right way.

More mass=more sustain and tone... all that jazz. But it seriously does effect the sound in a big way (luckily in a good way lol)

Brass is great i have it in all my floyd guitars, the titanium is the best as i feel it does what the brass does and more, only problem is the price. Worth the dough but i just dont have the extra money to throw them in all my guitars, but regardless im more than happy with the brass

hopefully that helps, if not you can read about it on the site floydupgrades.com

More mass, plus a different metal that vibrates somewhat differently, and you get a tonal difference, plus added sustain.

I just put one of these on my VH1 Partscaster, and there was an impressive difference over the garbage pot metal block that came with mine.

A good tip -- get new block mounting screws as well. You can find excellent quality ones from any fastener supply house for practically nothing. I bought nine stainless steel screws for under $3. WAY better than the original screws on my cheap licensed Floyd. I can only imagine what one of these blocks would do on a really good bridge like an original Edge.

Thanks for posting these, they've been a long time coming!!!

but...

Youtube strikes again and sucks tone from the recording!!!

there's note much in it in the vids but I can tell a difference, Ironically, I think the Ibanez stock block sounds best though, it seems to have more "sag" to the tone which seems to be missing from the others.

But I CAN tell the difference even over youtube!!! No more scepticism from me on these matters!

Even with the YouTube compression, you can tell the tonal variations.

Thanks for the great vid! Interesting that brass seemed to have a wider spectrum bottom end but the titanium seemed to flatten out the treble. Was that just the video getting quieter? Killer sustain though!

thanks to everyone who appreciates the video. Yes youtube compresses the **** out of stuff and the tone is lost, i am hoping to upload a big file and see if it takes better

In person the titanium is hands down the best upgrade i have heard. The brass is great and am not knocking it at all, i really love it. But the titanium adds what the brass does and more. The notes are crisp and clear and everything is articulate while keeping the balance and tone, mass, etc the brass does. And yeah the sustain... omg the sustain lol

Iv got a brass upgrade, and it does make a difference... especially in lead... extra sustain and phatter harmonics if that makes any sense...

Did I notice that these blocks don't have the extra screw holes for the block lock though?

No they don't. The block lock isn't really needed. I've been running an Edge for years with no issues. Springs have never shot off or anything.

I like the reassurance the block lock gives, I think that if you're trying to take steps forwards, you shouldn't forget these types of details.

I can't hear one lick of tonal difference between the three cleans. And the titanium sounds thinner on the dirty.
