2 EMGs in a 5-way VLX91? help please!

excuse me if it's already been discussed, but couldn't find it.

i've been asked to put two EMGs in place of two DiMarzio/IBZ on an RG2020 which has got a VLX91 5-way switch. now, the DiMarzio/IBZ have 4-conductors and coil-splitting and whatever, and, as you know, the EMGs aren't splitting and have only 2 conductors. can anyone help me find whatever wiring scheme for that? no matter what's in positions 2-3-4. thanks in advace.

That's pretty easy Nuno.. if you don't care what's in positions 2-3-4 you can wire it up pretty easy. Give me a second to pull up the proper pin configurations for a VLX-91 and I'll tell you how to wire it.

Did you want
Neck, neck, both, bridge, bridge
or
neck, both, both, both, bridge?

(or even something as silly as neck, bridge, both, neck, bridge?)

Here's a quick diagram I did up for ya for 2 EMGs on an OTAX VLX-91 switch
1 Neck, 2 neck, 3 both, 4 bridge, 5 bridge

http://www.brlguitars.com/2emg_on_5-way_vlx91.gif

Pretty simple ain't it??

Let me know how well it works. I just conceptualized the wiring right now and haven't personally tested it. It should work though. The logical flow of the signals only mix through the switch and shouldn't bleed onto each other.

You can mod this wiring very easily to get neck, both, both, both, bridge if you want.

Budd, you're the man! thank you a lot! very easy, indeed, but i just can't get into those electronic stuff. it would be so cool and usefull to know how the switch pins connect each other, so ppl like me would stop bothering ever.
btw, how would it change if i wanted to try the "neck, both, both, both, bridge" config? just out of curiosity. thank you man!

Going from "neck, neck, both, bridge, bridge" to "neck, both, both, both, bridge" is stupidly easy. Here's a variation on the same wiring as before to give you both pickups in positions 3, 4 and 5

Feel free to ask me about wiring questions. I'm *STILL* working on writing a book on guitar electronics and wiring, so any wiring questions I deal with I just add it to the stash of diagrams that will sooner or later go into the book.

Here's a diagram with the two different versions side by side so you can see the difference.

Now you can see how simple it is to change from one wiring to another

No problem man. Someone had to finally do a diagram for EMGs on a 5-way, so it might as well be me. Let me know how well it works
