2xEMG 89's 1xEMG SA HSH .... How??

Hi all ..
Just joined this site after reading here for last couple of weeks and building the courage to take on a job I have been putting off for about 15 years now ...!!!
I have a 1994 Ibanez S series that since I got it way back in the late 90's has had a problem ... The wiring was a real monkey nest that never seemed to do as it said on the tin ... and i was hopeing someone here could help me out or at least point me in the right direction ...
When I got this guitar it had been fitted with 2 EMG 89's and an EMG SA .. this would apear on the outset as not a bad set of pickups ....
But ...
It has never worked properly and had dead spots all over the 5 way switch...
I have now decided that its about time i sorted the nest out and get some use out of this Jem...
I would like some guidance in the best way to wire the pickups ..
The current available hardware I have is ..
2 x EMG 89
1 x EMG SA
2 x DPDT push/Pull 500K Pots (New)
2 x Extra DPDT Swiches (already in before i got guitar)
1 x 5 position Ibanez Switch 2502S (New)
1 x 104K Cap
1 x Ibanes Jack Socket
1 x 9v Power socket

Any help would be appreciated

For starters, 500KOhm pots will not work properly with EMGs. They need 25KOhm pots. I can't see the wiring diagram properly, but it looks about right. If you are still having problems you can probably email EMG and they'd be able to give you advice or a a wiring diagram to get you up and running.

And maybe look into the 18v mod to wake up those pickups.

Okay, having a bit of customizing EMG components and wiring, I can help you with how this will wind up getting wired.

First off, the EMG's need 25k ohm pots to work. If they are newer EMG's, they should have quick connect harnesses that plug into the back of the pickups. And if you get all new controls and a wiring kit, all of the components will be quick connect also - including the 5-way switch. So if you have the newer quick connect pickups, it would be more beneficial to get the new wiring kit with the solderless 5-way switch to make the install and wiring as easy as possible.

I did something similar in an ESP Stephen Carpenter 7-string, with a 707TW bridge, 707TW-R middle and SA-7 neck pickups. I had wired both humbuckers to 2x 2-way mini toggle switches for the coil splits. Everything was solderless/quick connect, except the mini toggles for the coil splits. Your going to have to do something similar to what I did to be able to get this thing back in shred mode again.

I can supply you with ALL of the diagrams you'll need to get this wired up, but you'll need a new wiring kit in order to be able to complete it. Send me a PM and we'll go from there.
