87/88 540s Wiring, Very confusing

Ok, first, I have looked for probably no less than 12 hours total for the solution to my problem. Found many answers, but mine seems to have a slight hiccup.
The guitar is a early 1988 540S, original everything. It has the three toggles, with the bridge toggle being on/off/on. Every wiring diagram I have seen, including the one I got from Ibanez.com shows the bridge humbucker with white, black, red, green and bare wires. This is where it gets strange. The IBZ/USA humbucker doesn't have the red lead. I have stripped the wire back to see if it might have been buried, but no red lead. Everything I have seen says this should be an IBZ F2, but being early model (made in Jan and number 84 of the year) I have read that Ibanez used an early model IBZ/USA that didn't have an actual designation to it.
So, which wires would be what leads from the humbucker in this situation?

Thank you in advance for any help in this. I haven't been able to play this wonderful guitar since I bought it through an amp. It has been sitting on my bench for almost 6 months waiting to breath again.

IT'S ALIVE !!!!

Thank you very much. I have been waiting for this beast to breath fire since I traded for it. After I got it breathing on a respirator, I applied basic electronic fundamentals to the rest of the wiring. And it is freaking sweet sounding.

I would have posted sooner...but well...it was so hard to put it down. The wife finally told me I had to stop to get ready to go out tonight...

Thanks again.

BTW, I traded an Epiphone Les Paul Standard for this early 1988 540S...I definitely made out on this trade.

I believe it was call Sunset Red...almost has a goldish tint to the red when you look at in the light.

NECRO BUMP. Does anyone have the actual SCHEMATIC for a 1988 540S with the 3 mini toggles?

What are you looking to accomplish with your wiring?

KennyV - This has the 3 mini toggles in an HSS setup and something about the bridge is not right.
The bare/green of the bridge is soldered to the output jack ground, which technically COULD be ok but I'm used to seeing them soldered to back of pots.
The red wire of the bridge is not connected at all and has a small little "nub" protruding out.
The black and white of bridge go to various lugs on the rear mini toggle but I do not know how this should be properly wired up. The bridge toggle is on/off/on and I'm unsure of purpose.
Bridge output is very weak, much less than middle or neck, so i really need some help on the wiring to the mini toggle as it pertains to bridge. All pickups are stock C2/C2/F2 (they dont actualy say it on there, they only say IBZ USA).

I have a pic, need to figure out how to upload it.

Hmm.. So i put the RED wire to the top left lug in photo and put black/white to the bottom right lug, moved bare/green to back of volume pot and now i have no output on either of the toggle positions.

Changed back so red wire goes nowhere, white wire in top left, black wire in bottom right. Output, but weak. Time to ohm the pickup, i reckon. this should normally be RED for hot, bare/green to ground and white/black for series link to tap.

Of the white is infact the hot, it needs to go to the switch.

I would experiment with the red wire on the switch too.

You said it's a 3 position correct?

Perhaps pos 1 needs to be white bridge,

pos 2 needs to be the reds for both

Pos 3 needs to be white neck

Send a pic of your switch.
Also, be carful playing around too much with soldering to the pots.
You actually can damage them and loose your output on them.

Luckily pots are cheap lol.

Wait, I forgot about the mini toggles.

Can you send a pic of the top of the guitar to get an idea of what it has as well?

Do you want them to be on off on or would you want them to have a bit more function?

The more pics and info the better.

Never heard of this config so I'm having a hard time understanding what is being described lol

Re: 87/88 540s Wiring, Very confusing

i think the bridge pickup has an issue, i need to ohm it out. its 3 mini toggles. neck and mid are perfect, on and off, sound great. bridge is on / off / coil tap. it sounds weak, not right. i think the bridge IBZUSA pickup is faulty.

Perhaps there's a short somewhere.
Could be a reason why it's sounding thin and weak.

Also, if the pickup is way too low on set up it won't have a good output either.
