Advice On Pickups

I've been thinking about finally switching out the stock pups on my RG1421F for something different. I have an SZ520 loaded with a ZW 81/85 set and absolutely love them but these obviously will not work on a 5-way selector. I've never really looked into DiMarzios much but apparently these are the pup of choice now a days and I think it's time to try them out. My question is what would be a good set to throw in my guitar to get a nice hard rock/metal tone. As far as a bridge pup I'm looking for something (like every other guitarist in this genre lol) that has a nice crunchy bottom end but can squeal out some nasty harmonics. Once again like anyone else in this genre, for a neck pup I'm looking for a nice clean and some good highs for soloing. Any suggestions???

Re: Advice On Pickups

You'd be better served posting in the pickups and wiring subforum. there's a sticky thread for how to best ask your question (covering the styles you are after, amps/gear used, etc).

For now I'd suggest a D-Activator pair. It'll be similar to the EMGs you have, but a bit more flexible.

Well I certainly can help with the first bit and have moved this thread accordingly.

I'd also agree on LonePhantom's suggestion as to what pickups to go for

Re: Advice On Pickups

I'm so used to posting questions about my Prestige in that forum, it's like second nature to post in there, I didn't even think about it lol. I'll definitely check that set out. Thanks.

Re: Advice On Pickups

The D-Activator pair seems to be the common answer these days--I'm going to have to jump on this wagon! I can also say that the TZ/AN combo is still a sweet choice for hard rock/metal, as well as Super Dist/PAF Pro.

Re: Advice On Pickups

Now are you all talking about the D-Activator pair or the D- Activator X pair?

nope, none of dimarzio pickups come with anything but mounting screws. Get 500K pots

Re: Advice On Pickups

Why do you need new pots? The ones in your guitar already should be fine.

Re: Advice On Pickups

I didn't know if I need them or not. I'm not very experienced when it comes to the electronics side of a guitar.
