Re: Air Norton S as Middle Pup

Takin A Ride, here's my revised scheme. Will this work pickup wise?

I'm not 100% sure I follow your wiring diagram but here's how DiMarzio thinks you should wire that:

You have to flip the neck pickup so that you're getting the inner coils I think. Or do you mean you want the south coil of the neck pickup with the pickup in normal orientation?

Obviously you'd have to make some slight adjustments for the dual tone pots. You could use this for the tone controls:

DiMarzio's wiring diagrams leave a little bit to be desired since they don't mention pickup orientation or which coil they're referring to.

Re: Air Norton S as Middle Pup

I understand, the scheme I posted is actually using the wiring from the second pdf you listed there. Theres no mention of having to flip pickups , but I guess I'll learn quick when I get the wiring done whether it works or not.

Re: Air Norton S as Middle Pup

Yeah, I think experimentation is the best way to figure this out.

The way I've seen Strats explained is that the middle pickup is always reverse polarity. In order to get a full sound in positions 2 and 4, you want both a reverse polarity middle pickup AND you want to wire it in reverse. Old Jems are this way:

But take a look at the diagram for a Jem20th using a hum-cancelling middle pickup:

http://www.ibanez.com/supportResourc...07/JEM20TH.pdf

It's wired backwards like I would expect, but it still seems to me like you're getting two north poles active in positions 2 and 4.
