Another pickup thread

Hey,

I've been reading about pickups lately, I've pretty much decided on dimarzios after glancing over them all.

Here's a few questions I had

Right now, my stock pickups can get a variety of styles out of them, I'm wondering if I change to more metal oriented pickups, would I still be able to dial in blues / classic rock tones? As much as I like metal I want to be able to play some light rock songs every now and then. I'm also looking for a nek pickup for fast shredding powermetal solos, but I don't want it "too bright" I like mellow sort of high sound, and for the bridge I was hoping to find something that can sustain and would be great for rytmes as well as lead, but able to like do palm chugs and get a deep sound from drop tunings. And the middle I was hoping I could use for clean stuff to get a like modern type beatles sound... maybe I could just keep the stock middle. I know most of this is achieved with the amp but the raw signal is the most important

I have no idea if any of what I said made sense, but here are a few pickups I was considering after checking most of dimarzios

Crunch Lab / Liquifire ( Everyone seems to praise this, I was actually just going to go with this combo but I decided to make a post anyway just to make sure it can do the stuff I want...)

Super 3 / paf pro (also heard this combo is just as good)

Below, I followed the guideline from the sticky...

RG1570

1. I like progressive / heavy metal / power metal mostly, stuff like dream theater, manowar, stratovarios... but I also like most of the new modern stuff coming out from these genres and other metal genres, especially the combination of genres like folk/progressive and alot of other varietys I heard alot of modern metal uses EMGs but I also heard they can't do clean stuff very well...

2. I'm going to be playing through varios free ampsims through an interface, and also amplitude

(I was wondering how much pickups would make a difference in ampsims vs real amps)

3.
Edge Zero trem, but I plan to use it like a hardtail sometimes.
Rosewood board
24 frets
Just the standard controls
Basswood
I don't know how my pickups are mounted, I'm guessing direct though.

I don't know why I would want to change my pickups ATM, but I read everywhere how much BETTER these other pickups are compared to them. I know this is bad but I'm just collecting information for when I figure out why I want to change them.

I don't know, but I choose dimarzio because I like their name the best.

Re: Another pickup thread

Ok. Rosewood, basswood, EZ... Try Evo 2 and Liquifire.

I sold my RG920 with that combo on Sunday... Should have kept the pickups.

My other RG with Super 3 and Super 2 is starting to sound dry and dark in the bridge, and thin and trebly in the neck. If you weant versatility, don't go beyond 400 mV.

Re: Another pickup thread

I wouldnt give up on EMG's ,
I have the 81/85 set and I like the clean sound.

Apart from that the only Dimarzios I know are the D-Activators,
dont like them that much, not a bad pickup but not for me.
